Well, y’all, there’s some grocery store news for Brunswick and St. Simons! 🛒

Food Lion announced on November 6 that it has agreed to purchase five Winn-Dixie stores in South Georgia, including two right here in the Golden Isles:

  • Brunswick: 5420 Jesup Highway
  • St. Simons Island: 220 Retreat Village

When will the change happen?

Food Lion says it plans to convert and reopen the stores in mid-December. Specific grand-opening dates haven’t been announced yet, and the purchase still has closing requirements to meet.

For now, the stores will continue operating as Winn-Dixie until the transaction is completed.

What can shoppers expect?

The announcement includes plans for groceries, fresh produce, meats and ready-to-eat meals, along with pickup and home delivery through Food Lion To Go.

Food Lion also expects to hire about 375 associates across all five stores. That number covers the entire acquisition, not just our two local locations.

You can read the details in Food Lion’s official announcement.

Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or you’re just getting settled, knowing what’s changing around town is part of feeling at home. What do you think about Food Lion coming to these locations? Have you shopped with them before?
