Mom’s of Glynn Guide
A family resource guide for Brunswick, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island
Finding your family’s routine in a new place takes time. This guide brings together practical places to start: school enrollment, child care, library activities, parks, rainy-day outings and local homeschool connections. Moms, dads, grandparents and caregivers are welcome here.
Start with what your family needs now, then save a few links for later. Programs, fees, hours and openings change, so check with each organization before making plans. Listings are informational, not endorsements or school rankings.
School and child care essentials
- New to Glynn County Schools? The district’s Register for School page explains new-student registration, required documents and the appointment process. Use it for a move into the district or a transition from private school or homeschool. Check directly with the district about your address and school assignment.
- Looking for child care or preschool? Georgia DECAL’s Choosing and Searching for a Child Care Program connects families to the state’s search tool and free assistance. Search providers, review available monitoring reports and ask providers about openings, schedules and costs. A listing is not a guarantee of availability or suitability.
- Understanding Quality Rated: DECAL explains its voluntary Quality Rated program. Use ratings as one part of your research, alongside inspection information, visits and questions about your child’s needs.
Before choosing a program, ask about pickup arrangements, meals, holiday closures, accessibility, staff communication and any additional charges. For Pre-K, verify the current school-year application instructions rather than relying on an older deadline.
Private schools in Glynn County
These local schools offer different educational and faith traditions. This is a starting list, not a ranking or endorsement. Confirm current grade offerings, admissions requirements, tuition, additional fees, transportation and available places directly with each school.
- Frederica Academy: St. Simons Island; independent, nonsectarian school serving pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Application process
- Heritage Christian Academy: Brunswick; Pre-K through grade 12. Christian school and a ministry of Christian Renewal Church. Admissions, visits and tuition information

- Saint Simons Christian School: St. Simons Island; independent Christian school offering K4 through grade 8. Application process and standards
Ask each school about its approach to learning support, family participation, religious instruction and before- or after-school care. An application link does not mean a place is available, and private-school preschool hours may differ from full-day child care.

Check the state record, too. Use the Georgia DECAL child-care search to search the provider’s exact name and address. Review its current licensing or exemption information and available inspection reports; do not infer licensing status from this guide or a provider’s marketing. DECAL’s child-care search assistance page offers help if you cannot find a matching record. No licensing status, inspection outcome, opening or price is guaranteed here.

Libraries, books and everyday learning
Marshes of Glynn Libraries serves families through the Brunswick-Glynn County Library and St. Simons Island Public Library. Its website has branch information, library-card details, digital resources and reading programs, including 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.
- Plan a library visit: Check the library events calendar for current children’s and family offerings. Look at the branch, age guidance and any registration instructions for each event rather than assuming a weekly schedule stays the same.
- Ask about a Jekyll outing: The library’s Jekyll Island Day Pass information describes a pass program for PINES cardholders. Availability and restrictions apply. Confirm current redemption rules and blackout dates with the Brunswick Library; the linked page includes some older dates.
Library visits can also be a useful starting point for families building a home reading routine or looking for learning materials between outings.
Parks, sports and getting outside

College in Brunswick
College of Coastal Georgia offers a local starting point for families exploring college study in Brunswick. Use its Admissions page for applicant pathways and application information. Families with high-school students, including homeschool students, can explore Dual and Joint Enrollment to learn about earning college credit while still in high school. Confirm current admissions requirements, approved courses, deadlines and funding rules with the college and the student’s school or homeschool advisor. Eligibility and admission are not guaranteed.
Homeschooling: state resources and local connections
Start with the state. The Georgia Department of Education’s home-study guidance listing links to its guidance document. Its official Declaration of Intent portal is separate from any co-op or paid curriculum service. Review current requirements directly with GaDOE; joining a local group does not replace state reporting responsibilities.
Explore local groups:
- Northside Baptist Homeschool Co-op: a faith-based, Gospel-centered church ministry with parent-led educational enrichment. Participation involves an interest/application process and review of its statement of faith. Check the official page for enrollment windows; this is not an open drop-in program.
- Next Generation Homeschool Association: a Christ-centered homeschool community offering co-op enrichment and fellowship. Enrollment is limited. Review its current admissions notice and participation requirements rather than assuming space is available.
- Glynn County Homeschoolers, public directory listing: GHEA’s listing describes a secular Brunswick/Glynn County group that welcomes families regardless of religious belief. The listing provides its Facebook connection. Facebook access or administrator approval may be needed; confirm current activity, membership expectations and any costs with the organizer.
Before applying to a group, ask about ages served, parent participation, teaching approach, fees, accessibility and attendance expectations. Share children’s personal information only through the organization’s appropriate private process.
